The end credits of Rohit Shetty-directed Simmba led to the announcement of Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi. Headlined by Akshay Kumar, the cop-drama, that also stars Ranveer Singh as Simmba and Ajay Devgn as Singham, was slated to release last year on Guddi Padwa but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government has now allowed 100% occupancy in cinemas and this could be a sigh of relief for all the films that were long due for a release, and Sooryavanshi is one of them. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the film could arrive on April 2 this year. The publication quoted a source as saying “Rohit Shetty is leading the discussion with the theatre owners. Co-producer Reliance Entertainment is also a part of these meetings”.
The source further added that—“The makers want to solve all the issues cropping up like payment of VPF (virtual print fee), revenue sharing, shortening of the window between OTT and theatrical release, etc. with the exhibitors. They are confident that there would soon be a consensus over these issues.”
Talking about the official announcement of the release, the publication mentioned that the team plans to announce the date of release in a grand way. The makers of the film are going to make sure that enough buzz is generated around the release of the film. The source concluded by saying that the announcement is expected to happen next week.
The film also stars Katrina Kaif, Jackie Shroff, Nikitin Dheer, Abhimanyu Singh, and Sikandar Kher among others.
